Man, 43, arrested on murder charge in St. James Parish

Some illegal or criminal activities are considered minor and, therefore, the penalties that come with a conviction lead to a short prison sentence. However, for some criminal offenses that seem especially heinous or serious, there is a strong possibility that the person accused of a felony may be sentenced to a longer prison sentence, large fines and other serious penalties.

Murder, robbery, rape and drug charges are some of the most common felony offenses, not just in Calcasieu Parish, but all across the state of Louisiana. A 43-year-old man who was recently facing felony charges - obstruction of justice and false reports - now faces a new charge: murder. Based on a report, the charges stemmed from the death of a 12-year-old girl who was also the daughter of the defendant's fiancée. The girl was last seen on July 1. Her body was found in a sugarcane field on July 6. According to authorities, they found out that the accused man loved to fish so they began searching an area where there is a large canal, which is how they located the girl's body.

Anyone facing felony charges will want to establish a strong criminal defense to fight the charges. A criminal defense could be the key to getting the charges reduced or eventually proving the defendant's innocence. It is also important for the accused person to seek legal guidance in order to understand how to proceed with the case. With legal advice, the accused can determine the severity of the charges and find the most appropriate defense strategy needed during trial.

Those who are facing felony charges may wish to seek sound legal advice and representation. By doing so, the defendants will be able to protect their future as well as their best interests.
