A conviction for drug charges can land a person in prison, and the ban on illegal drugs and controlled substances is vigorously enforced because of their ill effects on users. In fact, consequences of drug charges are severe all over the United States.
In Walker, police arrested and charged four people with manufacturing methamphetamine and the illegal possession of steroids. At the home of one of the accused people, the police confiscated cash, weighing scales, packaging materials, steroids, methamphetamine, oxycodone and marijuana. The drugs were valued at $31,600. The police suspect that the methamphetamine was manufactured and shipped from outside the state.
The four accused persons, who are residents of different counties in Louisiana, are facing multiple charges, including possession of drugs with the intent to distribute. All of the accused persons remain in custody.
Law enforcement in Louisiana, like everywhere else in the United States, is committed to curbing drug activities in the state. As part of their commitment, in search of evidence, they employ search and seizure tactics in areas that are believed to have suspected drug activities. In this case, the police amassed considerable evidence, and the probability seems high that all four of the accused persons could be convicted and receive severe punishments.
The future of those facing drug charges is dim because defending against such offenses involves considerable challenges. Those accused need to take full advantage of their rights if they are to have a chance of having the citations being overturned or the punishment being reduced.
