Search warrant leads to confiscation of 1.5 pounds of marijuana

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2013 | Uncategorized |

The state of Louisiana does not tolerate drug offenses. Methamphetamine, heroin, ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana are some of the most common prohibited substances that are confiscated by the authorities. A person caught carrying these drugs will most likely face possession charges, which can escalate into drug trafficking, depending on the quantity of the prohibited substances that were confiscated.

Recently, in Opelousas, Louisiana, east of Lake Charles, police confiscated crack cocaine and marijuana from a 28-year-old man. Based on the report, the police had a search warrant when they raided the house of the suspect. They confiscated three-fourths of an ounce of crack cocaine and an estimated 1.5 pounds of marijuana.

The suspect is now facing charges which include possession of drug paraphernalia and intent to distribute.

Following an arrest, the person under suspicion must prepare a solid defense. Failure to do so can lead to serious repercussions, including long-term incarceration, loss of employment, fines and other penalties. In this case, the man is facing the serious charge of intent to distribute. Conviction for this charge could result in stiff fines and a lengthy term of incarceration..

The suspect can take advantage of the law and defend himself in court. This can be done by seeking advice from a staunch legal advocate who will stand on behalf of the accused. A legal professional will often start by analyzing the extent of the charges pressed and investigating any flaws committed during the search and seizure operation. Any mistakes made by the authorities can be used to strengthen the defense.

Drug crimes are serious offenses throughout the country. In Calcasieu Parish, a person who is currently dealing with such issues must take the appropriate steps to put up a strong defense, which can prove the innocence of the suspect or at least lessen the severity of the charges and penalties.
