Family facing serious criminal defense situation in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Feb 16, 2017 | Criminal Defense |

A mother and her sons in Louisiana are facing some serious drug charges, as well as additional charges related to animal cruelty. The situation unfolded when police went to their residence in January. They had apparently just arrested one of the young men on suspicion of methamphetamine distribution. Lake Charles attorneys often deal with these types of criminal defense situations.

When they searched the home, officers claim to have found at least seven dead cats and more than 130 cats wandering around the premises. They also said the entire home was littered with fecal matter. The conditions of the felines was allegedly so poor that every single one of them had to be euthanized.

The woman of the residence, who happens to be the mother of those arrested, was charged with several counts of animal cruelty and various types of drug charges. She reportedly posted a $40,000 bond and was set free. Her two sons are both facing serious drug charges related to the matter as well.

Officers say they seized various items and tools they believe were being used by the accused to manufacture methamphetamine. Depending on a particular situation, there are often various defense options available under such circumstances. What strategy will be used to fight charges in a Lake Charles or other Louisiana court is typically best determined alongside guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney. American jurisprudence protects every defendant’s innocence unless proved otherwise in court; therefore, it is almost always in the best interests of a person facing charges to secure skilled defense assistance before the accusations are adjudicated.
