Lake Charles roadways are often scenes of motor vehicle collisions. A recent one occurred in the wee hours of a Saturday morning in another Louisiana region that authorities claim may have been a drunk driving incident. Sadly, the accident resulted in a fatality.
It wasn’t long after 3 a.m. when police responded to the accident scene. They say a 21-year-old man had been behind the wheel of a motor vehicle when he lost control of his steering. His vehicle allegedly veered into another traffic lane.
The vehicle is said to have struck another car in the northbound lane. The driver of that car was unable to survive his injuries. The man whose steering was out of control was also injured and was treated at a nearby medical facility. Charges are said to be pending against the man as police await toxicology test results. They claim he may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Just because Louisiana police think something, however, doesn’t make it so, as many have been proved wrong in their assumptions in the past. This is why our criminal justice system allows anyone charged with drunk driving or another crime to present as strong a defense as possible to try to avoid conviction. If someone in Lake Charles is convicted of intoxicated driving in a situation where another person has been injured or died, the penalties can be quite severe. For this and many other reasons, it is typically best to rely on experienced representation during court proceedings.
