Freedom at risk for Louisiana woman re drunk driving charge

A 36-year-old woman in Louisiana is facing serious criminal charges following a recent motor vehicle collision that resulted in multiple fatalities on Christmas Eve. The woman was reportedly driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Police claim the crash was caused by drunk driving.

Two vehicles collided, resulting in a fire on impact. There was a child involved who was reportedly trapped inside the car following the crash. The child was later pronounced dead, as was his mother who had been traveling with him and his father when the accident occurred.

The woman who died was pregnant. The woman accused of being responsible for the deaths was also injured in the crash. Police also say the woman was involved in another collision from which she had fled the scene just before this accident took place. She was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run and other related charges.

Any Louisiana accident that results in fatality and is followed by drunk driving charges typically evokes strong emotions from family members and friends of those who did not survive their injuries. However, such situations do not always lead to convictions if evidence to prove a motorist's guilt is lacking. There are also cases where defendants hire experienced attorneys who are then able to preserve their clients' freedom by aggressively fighting drunk driving charges in court. There is no way to predict a particular outcome as the court decides each case according to its own details, and although circumstances may be similar between several cases, there is no guarantee that the outcomes will be the same.
