Civilian complaint led to need for criminal defense in Louisiana

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2018 | Criminal Defense |

An unidentified person is said to have called in a complaint to Louisiana police regarding suspected illegal drug activity in a particular parish. The situation unfolded into a narcotics investigation and subsequent need for criminal defense for several people. Each of those arrested is guaranteed the right to an attorney and the opportunity to present a meaningful defense.

Police say that after they received the complaint from a resident in the area, a team of drug task force investigators were placed on assignment. At some point during their investigation, they requested and apparently secured a search warrant. Authorities claim the search uncovered substantial amounts of cash, weapons and drugs.

Authorities say that marijuana carrying an approximate street value of nearly $15,000 was reportedly seized during the recent drug task force search. In addition to the drugs, police reports state that handguns, rifles and a shotgun, plus more than $1,200 in cash were also confiscated. Three people were arrested, ranging in age from 30 to 60. One of the defendants was released after a summons was issued. The other two were booked into a county correctional center.

A strong criminal defense will be needed to fight against charges of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, as well as possession of a firearm with dangerous, controlled substances. In most drug-related situations like this one in Louisiana, those accused often request immediate defense assistance from experienced criminal law attorneys. This is typically the best course of action to take in the hope of preserving one’s freedom and mitigating the circumstances at hand.
