Louisiana police officer suspended over drunk driving charges

by | Dec 5, 2018 | Drunk Driving |

Police in Louisiana recently arrested one of their own for supposedly getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated. Before the man’s arrest, he allegedly led police on a chase, which ended in an accident. Charged with drunk driving, he also apparently had a minor in his vehicle during the incident. These types of criminal allegations are quite serious and can lead to possible severe consequences for Lake Charles defendants who are also accused of driving under the influence.

At approximately 10 p.m. on a recent Sunday, someone apparently phoned police to complain about what may have been a drunk driver who had just been denied the ability to purchase alcohol at a CVS location. The clerk had apparently cited his impairment when refusing to process the sale. Officers approached the man while he was still in the CVS parking lot, but he fled in his vehicle.

Officers quickly followed after him in what developed into a vehicle chase. Authorities eventually deployed spike strips onto the road, which the man apparently drove over and then crashed into a nearby curb. The vehicle then caught fire and a 15-year-old passenger climbed out, but the driver initially refused to budge. He was eventually removed by attending officers and arrested.

According to reports, the driver failed a roadside field sobriety test, spoke incoherently and was surrounded by the scent of alcohol. He is currently suspended from his position as a police officer. It is not uncommon for Lake Charles defendants who are facing drunk driving charges to also deal with a fallout at their place of employment. To minimize these types of effects both in their personal life and in the legal realm, defendants are well-advised to take careful and timely action in regard to their criminal defense.
