Lake Charles police make drunk driving arrest

On Behalf of | Jan 10, 2019 | Drunk Driving |

Criminal allegations of driving while impaired are already serious enough as is, but certain situations might elevate criminal charges. A Louisiana man is currently facing charges his third offense of drunk driving with child endangerment alongside several other charges. In these types of situations, crafting a solid criminal defense strategy can be essential to securing the best possible outcome.

Police say they were first made aware of a possible drunk driver around 7:30 p.m., when they began to receive calls from multiple witnesses. These callers reported seeing a man driving erratically on I-10. At one point the driver supposedly sideswiped the railing on a bridge, but avoided a serious collision at the time. He was later apprehended by Lake Charles police.

Identified as a 34-year-old man, the driver also had a minor child in his vehicle at the time. It is unclear if the 10-year-old child is related to him. Police also found an open container in the vehicle and used a Breathalyzer test to determine that his BAC — blood-alcohol content — was three and a half times that of the legal limit.

Lake Charles defendants accused of drunk driving likely already understand the severity of their situation. Depending on their circumstances, they could face much more than losing their driving privileges or shelling out significant amounts for fines, and could instead be looking at jail time. Because each person’s case is unique, securing the best possible outcome often requires using different approaches. For some, this looks like negotiating a plea deal with the prosecution, while others find more success by fighting the charges to their fullest extent.
