An alleged break-in at the Governor’s Mansion led to the recent arrest of a Louisiana man. He is facing several criminal charges, including criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property and simple burglary. Police also claim that he assaulted two officers while he was being transported to police headquarters.
According to police, a 34-year-old man was somehow able to gain access to the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion despite various security measures that were in place. After entering the building, he allegedly broke a wooden, antique table. Afterwards he supposedly fell asleep on one of the building’s sofas. He was still asleep when police arrived, and they say a subsequent pat down revealed that he had narcotics on his person.
The man is said to have attempted to resist his arrest. He is accused of assaulting two different officers, one of whom he may have tried to disarm. Police eventually placed the man in leg shackles in addition to handcuffs due to his alleged violent behavior at the time. It is still unclear how the man managed to get into the Governor’s Mansion, as it is surrounded by an iron fence with only a single entrance.
Louisiana police did not say whether the man might have had a reason for entering the building. However, the criminal charges he is currently facing are quite serious in nature and could come with severe consequences if convicted.
