Criminal defense: Man charged for ambulance theft

Police claim that a man in Louisiana recently stole an emergency ambulance. Authorities charged the man for driving without a license and for theft of a motor vehicle, and a judge set his bond at $20,150. Both of these allegations are serious, and a vigorous approach to criminal defense is usually necessary for defendants in Lake Charles.

The theft allegedly took place at a medical facility on Sept. 8, 2019. The driver of the emergency ambulance had just gotten out and was transferring a patient into the facility when the 28-year-old man may have spotted the unattended vehicle. Police claim that at that point he entered the vehicle and drove off.

It is not clear how long the man spent driving the ambulance before he was stopped. An officer initiated the traffic stop after the ambulance was spotted an unspecified distance from the hospital. He was arrested during the stop and then transported to an area correctional facility. Police later determined that he did not have a driver's license.

When faced with serious criminal charges, Lake Charles defendants may not be sure of the appropriate actions to take. Many people find that a good place to start is to carefully review all charges and evidence, and to seek expert guidance. Taking these early criminal defense steps can help defendants determine how they should proceed in order to pursue the most favorable outcomes possible. This may mean fighting a charge throughout the entirety of criminal court proceedings or, when available, negotiating a plea deal with the prosecution.
