Criminal defense: Former store employee charged with theft

A Lake Charles woman was recently released from police custody after posting a $10,000 bond. She was arrested and taken into police custody in March for allegedly stealing from her place of work. She is facing a charge for theft of over $25,000, which is a serious allegation that often requires a thorough and vigorous criminal defense.

An asset protection investigator at the store where the woman worked at the time contacted authorities about an employee who was possibly stealing items. Police showed up at the store on March 11, 2020 to look further into the matter. At that time, the asset protection investigator told police that the 35-year-old woman had likely been stealing from the store for about a year.

Police were able to watch surveillance footage taken at the store, which they claim backs up the asset protection investigator's claim. She could supposedly be seen leaving work with unpaid items on several different occasions. When police questioned her about this, she purportedly told them she had removed around $60,000 in products.

Achieving the most favorable outcome possible is generally the goal for defendants in Lake Charles. Finding a path toward that outcome is not always easy, though. For someone who is confused about where to start with criminal defense planning, learning as much as possible his or her rights, criminal charges and related evidence is usually a good place to start. Since Louisiana law can be complicated, it could be helpful to seek guidance from an attorney who is well-versed in this area.
