Louisiana police file criminal charges for attempted burning

A judge recently set a woman's bond at $19,000 after she was arrested on a number of allegations, including aggravated assault. Louisiana police claim that she tried to harm her mother and may have also struck her cousin. She is currently facing at least five separate criminal charges.

Police were called to a home on April 10, 2020, and a single officer responded to the scene. Authorities believe that a 28-year-old woman had tried to use a lighter and aerosol spray to inflict burns on her mother before the responding officer arrived. The arrest report also accuses her of pouring an unspecified flammable liquid on the police officer.

He then spoke with some of the woman's family members after placing her in handcuffs and into the back of his vehicle. They told him that she had hit her cousin in the face. During the time she was waiting in the back of the police vehicle and somehow freed her right hand from the handcuffs. Reportedly, she attempted to leave the vehicle but was apparently unable to.

She was arrested for four charges, and then charged with a fifth -- battery of a correctional facility employee -- after she was accused of spitting at a correctional officer. Facing multiple criminal charges is a serious deal in Louisiana, and defendants often face potentially serious consequences like time in jail and fines. Achieving the best possible outcome might feel difficult in this type of situation, which is why speaking with an experienced attorney about one's options is typically quite helpful.
